Spanning around 300 years, the exhibits at the Puppet Theatre Museum (Museum für Puppentheater) are not to be missed and appeal to all ages. Housed within five part-timbered historical houses, the Puppet Theatre Museum boasts countless hand puppets, ventriloquist dummies and marionettes, while other highlights include a number of musical instruments, posters and other memorabilia, many of which are rotated throughout the year.

Located within the historic Old Town (Altstadt) district, the highly acclaimed and award-winning Buddenbrookhaus museum remembers the life of famous writer Thomas Mann, born in Lubeck in 1875, and is housed within a restored mid-18th century building. Expect to see period recreations of rooms that appeared within his Buddenbrooks novel. Additional items of interest can be found in the adjacent Thomas and Heinrich Mann museum (Heinrich und Thomas Mann Center).

The Lubeck Museum of Ethnology dates back to the mid-1980s and features a number of themed exhibitions, concentrating on regional beliefs, international individuals, art works and various items from around the world, many of which have been collected by prominent locals over a period spanning two centuries. Of particular interest at this attraction is the Egyptian mummy, which is extremely well preserved and unique.

Concentrating on local plant and animal species in this part of Germany, the Museum of Natural History and the Environment, known locally in Lubeck as the Museum für Natur und Umwelt, offers three floors of exhibits. Live reptiles, fish, bees and various invertebrates are well displayed in large tanks and similar glass enclosures.
