Lubeck Tourist Information and Tourism: Picture of the cityscapeA particularly picturesque city famed for its many Gothic buildings and also its tasty marzipan, Lubeck (German: Lübeck), is perhaps most famous for its iconic 15th-century Holstentor gateway, which boasts a true fairy tale appearance, with twin cylindrical towers. Behind the Lubeck Holstentor, a city of medieval charm awaits, where you will discover in excess of 1,000 historic buildings, so many in fact that Lubeck has been listed as a World Heritage Site since the mid-1980s.

Much of the best sightseeing in Lubeck lies within the Old Town area, known simply as the 'Altstadt'. Encircled by the Trave River, this appealing part of the city is just a short walk from both the train station (Hauptbahnhof) and the bus station. Nearby, the enormous ferry port lies next to the Baltic Sea, within the suburb of Travemunde, where you will also find several pleasant sandy beachfronts and a true feel of seaside tourism

Much of Lubeck is well signposted in English and tourists will find it easy to find there way around. The Lubeck Travemunde Tourismus (tourist information centre) is always on-hand should you require any further information and is to be found on the Breite Strasse.
